At our company, I think the employees would be aghast if the management went ahead with a big holiday shindig. For one thing, it's hard to celebrate when you've just lost your coworkers to layoffs. Second, I think there would be some general disgust with a management who is willing to throw a party when your industry is being brought to its knees. Finally, I'd rather not see money thrown away on a Turducken & open bar when you've just told me that a salary freeze will be effective starting now for the entire year of 2009. Party? No thanks.
